Our history

Thirty-five years of machines

ImSim did not start as a simulator company. It started as a machine shop that built the equipment other people's cars are assembled and tested on, and that is still the reason the simulators are built the way they are.

Timeline

1989

SIRMAF

ImSim's history cannot be told without its parent company. Since 1989, SIRMAF has built special machines for the automotive industry, designed and manufactured in-house, for assembling and testing automotive parts, to the delivery times and quality standards that industry demands.

Thirty-five years of that work built deep knowledge of special machinery design, software and robotics. After looking hard at a range of markets, we decided a simulator was where that expertise could reach an end customer directly.

2015

Ideation

Our designer drafted architecture after architecture for the chassis. Each one went to the engineering team, examined both for whether it could be built and for what it would feel like to drive.

Chassis architectures sketched out, one alternative after another. The ImSim designer drawing one of the early chassis studies.

2016

The first prototype

Fully operational by the end of the year. We knew testing would show us what to improve, and we were ready to let real demand steer the hardware and the software rather than guess at it.

2017

The first installation

Our first installation came very soon after we showed the prototype, which meant we needed a finished product fast. A short cycle of testing, redesign and implementation stabilised the design and started production of ImSim V1.

The first two units ever built were used by more than 25,000 people, for over 4,000 hours of continuous use, without a single fault.

2018

ImSim ALMA

V1 was already a good product. We rebuilt it anyway.

The name took a while. Latin words, Portuguese cities, the ships that went out to map the world, English words that sounded right. ALMA won, Portuguese for soul. Each machine gets one from the people who build it, and then takes on its owner's.

2019

Lamborghini

ImSim simulators went into the Museo Lamborghini, and into the Lamborghini VIP area at the Geneva motor show.

2020

ImSim Talento

Having spent years on motion and ergonomics, we looked down. Pedals are the most underestimated component in simulation, and capable drivers were being held back by them.

Talento was engineered from nothing. A brake that simulates up to 160 kg of force, with a tuning range wide enough for a professional, and resistance curves and pedal feel that the owner sets.

2022

ImSim TERRA

The market kept asking one question: can I start simple and grow into it?

TERRA is the answer. Built with the upgrade path designed in from the start, so a TERRA can begin static or with tactile feedback only, take a motion system later on the same platform, and never need the machine underneath replaced.

2024

ImSim GARRA

Designed not only for performance but for presence. FIA-approved motion, a static monitor system, a sculptural shell with reactive lighting.

More than a simulator. A piece built for people who expect the same standard from how it looks as from how it drives.

Where is it going?

Working build. This form is in demonstration mode and sends nothing.
